Smoothies for Glowing Skin and Hair
Here’s the truth: healthy skin and hair start from within. It’s the foods we consume on a regular basis that affect the health, vitality, and appearance of our skin and hair.
Nutrient-packed smoothies quickly deliver essential vitamins and minerals directly to the cells that need them most.
This inner nourishment will result in healthier skin and hair that looks visibly more vibrant and glowing and is more resilient to oxidative stress and damage.
Smoothie Superfood Ingredients
In these smoothies for glowing skin and hair, we’re focusing on what makes us healthy and pretty: antioxidants, healthy fats, fiber, and protein.
You’ll see these superfood ingredients throughout because they are packed with nutrients that will make you glow.
I’ve provided my favorite five smoothies below, but feel free to mix and match these ingredients with your preference or what you have on hand. Here are some beauty smoothie staples for glowing skin and hair:
- Organic frozen berries and fruits: antioxidant-rich berries help to fight free radicals in the body that contribute to aging skin and inflammation. I also love incorporating frozen mango and cherries.
- Leafy greens: spinach, kale, parsley, and chard are packed with vitamins A, C, E, and K, all contributing to skin health by promoting cell growth and preventing sun damage and pollutants. They’re also a great detoxifier.
- Citrus: oranges, lemons, and limes are all rich in vitamin C, which plays a crucial role in maintaining skin health by promoting collagen production for firm and youthful skin, while their antioxidants promote hair health.
- Ginger: according to a study in the International Journal of Preventive Medicine, ginger has anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects, which reduce inflammation-related skin conditions, such as acne or psoriasis, and can protect against aging and damage from free radicals.
- Collagen: a powerhouse for skin health and overall wellness. Collagen powders have been shown to improve skin elasticity, reduce wrinkles, and strengthen hair and nails. I like the Vital Proteins Collagen – Unflavored.
- Protein powder: a clean, high-quality protein powder provides the body’s necessary amino acids, which are the building blocks of collagen = healthier, more radiant skin and stronger, thicker hair growth. I like the Sunwarrior Vegan Organic Plant-Based Protein Powder. I’ll also add liquid egg whites to amp up the protein in my smoothies.
- Avocados: avocados are packed with vitamins A, D, and E, fatty acids, and fiber. These nutrients promote glowing skin and healthy hair growth by boosting collagen production, providing deep hydration, and protecting against skin and hair damage. I don’t taste the avocado once blended, and they give smoothies a nice, creamy texture.
- Bananas: bananas have essential nutrients like potassium vitamins C and B6 that hydrate the skin, stimulate hair growth, and improve scalp health. I love adding half of a frozen banana for taste and creaminess.
- Chia seeds: these tiny seeds are rich in antioxidants, fiber, and omega-3 fatty acids, which help give a radiant complexion and healthy hair.
- Organic coconut milk (without added gums): Oftentimes, I replace water with canned coconut milk. Coconut milk is good for skin and hair because it has vitamins like E and C and important fats, including lauric acid. This helps protect the skin, make more collagen, and deeply moisturize from the inside out.
- Pumpkin: High in beta-carotene, it converts to vitamin A, helping repair skin and prevent damage from the sun.
- Other add-ins: maca powder, organic cacao powder, flax seeds, hemp seeds, raw pasture-raised egg (yep, I will add them raw), nut butter, dates, coconut water, greens powder, fiber powder, greek yogurt, apples, celery, cucumber, turmeric, aloe juice, etc.
The options are endless! Anything I need to use in the fridge gets tossed in the blender.

How to Make a Glowing Skin and Hair Smoothie
Easy: add all ingredients to a blender and blend until smooth.
Tip: start with your berries and liquid at the bottom closest to the blade – this helps blend the best. Add extra liquid to get to your desired thickness.
Blender getting stuck? Add in more liquid.
These smoothies will make a large smoothie or about two smaller ones.
If you have extra smoothie left over, save in the fridge for up to three days (blend again before enjoying), or freeze the extra in ice cube molds and add them to your next smoothie creation.

- 1 orange peeled
- 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
- 1/2 frozen banana

03 | Skin Detox Smoothie
Do you ever feel you need a detox or reset? Maybe a detox smoothie for clear skin?
This detox smoothie is full of leafy greens that provide vitamins and detoxifying chlorophyll and cucumber/celery to hydrate and flush out toxins.
It’s a fantastic smoothie to help clear skin acne. Although this is packed with greens and veggies, you won’t taste them with the added berries – I promise!
Ingredients:
- 1-2 cups of coconut water
- 1/2 banana
- 1 cup frozen berries or any fruit on hand
- Giant handful or about 2 cups of leafy greens, including flat-leaf parsley
- 1/2 chopped cucumber
- 1 stalk of celery (tip: keep celery in the freezer for smoothies)
- 1/4 cup of fresh lemon juice (or just hand squeeze some lemon to your liking)
- 1 knob of fresh ginger
- 1 T. chia seeds
- Optional: protein powder and/or collagen powder
Make it: Blend until smooth. Add water or extra coconut water as needed.
04 | Super Energy Smoothie
This super energy smoothie combines cold brew coffee and antioxidant-rich cocoa powder that helps fight free radicals with the hormone-balancing benefits of maca powder.
This easy coffee smoothie recipe can be made with store-bought cold brew or iced coffee, or you can brew your own and let it cool.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of cold-brew coffee (you can brew and cool your own or purchase from any grocery store)
- 1/2 cup of unsweetened almond milk or canned coconut milk
- 1 -2 tsp. of Maca Powder
- 2 tsp. cacao powder
- Pinch of cinnamon
- 1/2 frozen banana or 1/2 avocado
- 2 scoops of collagen powder (I like chocolate for this recipe)
- Ice cubes (optional)
Make it: Blend until smooth. Add water, extra coffee, or even liquid egg whites as needed.
05 | Nighttime Cherry Smoothie
Cherries are rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds that combat oxidative stress, a primary culprit behind aging skin.
Cherries contain high amounts of vitamins A, C, and E, which contribute to a radiant complexion. Their anthocyanins, which improve skin health by repairing damaged skin cells and promoting new cell growth, also help.
I love having this at night because cherries are a good source of melatonin, which regulates sleep patterns, and quality sleep is critical for good-looking skin.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of frozen dark or tart cherries
- 1 frozen banana
- Handful of spinach
- 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt
- 1 scoop collagen powder or protein powder
- 1 T. chia seeds
- 1 cup almond milk or canned coconut milk
- 1 tsp. Honey (optional)
Make it: Blend until smooth. Add water, almond milk, or even liquid egg whites as needed.
06 | Pumpkin Spice Skin-Boosting Smoothie
Ingredients:
- ½ cup pumpkin puree
- 1 frozen banana
- ½ cup unsweetened almond milk
- ½ cup Greek yogurt
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- ½ teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
