Collagen Hot Chocolate

Collagen for Healthy Hair, Skin, and Nails

Collagen is a protein found abundantly in our bodies and helps maintain the structure of our skin, hair, nails, and joints.

Your body’s natural collagen production starts to slow down as early as your twenties. The result? Skin elasticity diminishes; you might notice wrinkles, sagging skin, and even brittle nails.

By adding collagen to our diet, we can replenish our collagen levels, and consistent use of collagen has been shown to promote healthy and firm skin, hair, and nails.

Collagen also packs a good dose of protein, which is essential for maintaining plump, healthy skin. It acts as the building block and helps your body produce collagen, which keeps your skin fresh and youthful.

Consuming Collagen: What Works

When it comes to consuming collagen, various forms are available—like supplements, powders, and enriched foods. One of the best methods is through a warm cup of hot chocolate.

I prefer using collagen powder vs. protein powders in hot chocolate because collagen powders blend well without chalkiness or clumps.

My favorite brand for this recipe is the Vital Proteins Chocolate Collagen, but you can use any collagen you prefer.

Collagen Hot Chocolate Ingredients

This super-simple recipe only calls for six ingredients but can be completely customized.

Vital Proteins Collagen Hot Chocolate

Milk

For extra creamy hot chocolate, choose full-fat coconut, cashew, or whole milk. Any milk (or even a liquid protein shake) works well, too.

Collagen Powder

I love the chocolate Vital Protein Collagen Peptides, but any collagen powder will work. Collagen powder emulsifies way better than protein powders, and you’ll get that extra beauty boost for your hair, skin, and nails.

Raw Cacao Powder

Unlike regular processed cocoa powder, Raw Unsweetened Cacao Powder is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals due to minimal processing.

It is full of flavonoids and antioxidants that reduce inflammation and improve blood.

Maple Syrup

Maple syrup is a natural sweetener packed with minerals and antioxidants. I feel the rich flavor of maple syrup compliments the chocolate perfectly. Any sweetener or non-sugar alternative can be used.

Vanilla

A splash of pure vanilla extract gives this hot chocolate a rich, warm, and sweet aroma—just a splash is needed. You can also experiment with adding different extract flavors, like peppermint.

Sea Salt

My secret ingredient. A dash of sea salt in the hot chocolate enhances flavor by subtly intensifying the sweetness and richness of the chocolate, creating a more balanced taste profile. Trust me!

A good sea salt also provides trace minerals your body needs.

How to Make Collagen Hot Chocolate

Easy – throw everything in a pot and whisk until warm. You’ll need a small saucepan and a wire whisk.

Recipe Modifications

This is the base collagen hot chocolate recipe, but you can customize it with whipped cream or additional antioxidant-boosting ingredients like ginger, turmeric, and cinnamon.
